The horizon now from all directions shows a whitish haze during the day and a brownish-reddish haze at dusk. Right now the winds are calm, but neither fire has been completely contained yet. These fires are burning in two very popular camping sites and will hamper businesses and family plans over the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. Even we had planned of camping nearby; guess that isn't going to happen.

Got this via email a few minutes ago:
“ …A Type 2 Incident Management Team took control of the Arlene fire last night at 1800. Evacuations remain in place for the Parker Canyon Lake and the recreation area remains closed until further notice. Last conversation with the Forest Service indicated that this closure will remain in affect over the Memorial Day Weekend. This fire has now jumped to over 10,000 acres. Expect to continue to see smoke in the Sierra Vista area when this fire runs through light brush and dried grass.
Evacuations continue in place for Paradise and the Research Center on the Horseshoe Fire. Burnout operations have not been able to progress as planned due to high winds over the last several days. If all of the stars align correctly today, those operations will begin in the areas that will allow Paradise and the Research Center folks to return. Once the operations are complete and assessment will be made that the area is safe and that the fire should not jump these new blackened areas. If all is favorable, the restrictions will be lifted.
Most of the wilderness area is closed, and road blocks are being placed on many of the back roads entering into the forest area. At this time, most of the popular campgrounds are closed and will probably stay that way over the Memorial Day weekend for everyone's safety.”
